Barefoot trimming

Currently serving the West Kootenays, from Nakusp to Nelson/ Castlegar

I began my trimming apprenticeship with Lisa Hun in 2018 when I purchased a feral rescue mare who wouldn't let anyone else touch her. I had the privilege of having incredible, open hearted, pioneering teachers.

Since then I've maintained the hooves of my personal horses and the teaching herds I've worked with- from Texas to Ontario and back to BC again. I've helped rehab terribly foundered hooves, and mentored owners in a way forward that supports the body's incredible capacity to heal.

In 2023, I traveled to Alberta to have the chance to trim and learn from David Landreville, as his attention to shaping the heels and frog with the goal of building a fully live foot balanced over the back of the heels, as well as his care and attention to the feedback provided by the horses themselves, has revolutionized my trim.

I like to work slowly, with a non-assuming touch, giving the horse time to feel out the changes I'm making.

"maintaining horses' feet is a dance between where their feet currently are, the ideal hoof we'd like to grow toward, and the practical necessities of what you'd like to do together. it's one of the parts of their bodies where you can do the most damage, but you can also have the greatest positive impact."

"You've completely changed what I thought was possible for my two laminitic mares, both for their feet and their overall well being. Thank you, thank you."

Pricing

Trims: $65- $75

Pricing for my trims depends on how many horses I'm able to get in on a trip, the size of your horse, the trim interval, and if there are any soreness/ behaviour / training issues that make the trim take longer. Generally, my price is $65- $75/ trim unless the circumstances are exceptional. Because of the attention to detail and time for the horse to process that is worked into each trim, you can expect your horse's trim to take about an hour.

Hoof Consultation/ Trim Training Session $150.00

I also do longer 1.5 hr hoof consultations and trim training sessions for horse owners who want to be able to have a deeper understanding of the issues their horse is experiencing based on what the hoof is telling us, or who want to learn how to trim their own horses feet and / or keep up with maintenance between trims. These consultations start at $150 and include a full trim.
